Upgrade to Wordpress 2.6 easily
Well Wordpress 2.6 has just been released and i’m confident to say, i’ve successfully upgraded my blog to the latest version. I’ve been busy the past week setting up new sites and so i couldn’t give much time on this blog. Until after i saw the Sezwho collaboration with Entrecard and the new stable Wordpress 2.6 version had been released that i decided to spend some time tweaking here.
Well my Wordpress upgrade went smoothly and thanks to the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade plugin that i use, there’s no problem at all. If you’re using self-hosted Wordpress blog and thinking of upgrading, i can assure you from my experience, there’s no need to understand anything, just follow the instruction and click next until it finishes.
For those that haven’t used this plugin yet, i recommend you to use this. It’s been developed by Keith Dsouza from techie-buzz.com. Its simple to use, just upload and activate it just like others and after that it will automatically checks for new versions every time you login. If you decide to upgrade, just click on the link and you will be navigated to the upgrading page. It will check for any problems, then backup the database and configurations, deactivates all plugins, download the latest version from wordpress.org and install it. If the database needs an upgrade too, it will notify and suggest upgrading it for you. After successful installation, then it will reactivate your plugins and provides you the log and a copy of backups in case you need it later. Everything is made simple and easy to use, with clear instruction and click next.

I have upgraded my other blogs with this method and none gives me any problem. Spent like 5 minutes each to upgrade. If you have a lot of post, it might take some more time. My standard plugins might also contribute to fewer problems and less time spent to rectify it probably. I just hope there’s not going to be another security issue with this new version like what the previous did. And hopefully too, I have more time to spend on this blog after i finished my other projects.

Oh this is great, I have three blogs that I have to upgrade and I always have to do them manually
I am going to give this a whirl and see if it works for me too.
Thanks so much for the heads up I think you just gave me a few hours of my weekend back.

I’ve used the plugin and I think it is probably the most useful one that I have.
yup, this plugin really save me a lot of time and misery
. i’m actually lazy to download the new version then open up ftp to upgrade using the old way. a lot of process and i’m also scared i might screw up something. thought wordpress should make this as a standard option on future releases.
Congratulations!
I am not that dare to install it yet manually. The hostgator auto update fantastico is still not available. Maybe, I should wait longer to experience 2.6… Have a great weekend!
i believe the hostgator auto update in fantastico is avalaible alrdy. try check it first if u dont want to use this plugin. i think my theme also needs some updates. have a great weekend too, am going to see the new batman movie tomorrow
I tried this plugin on a blog that is hosted by Netfirms, and it didn’t work. It hung when it attempted to upgrade.
Had to do it manually.
I had a little trouble upgrading. As soon as I upgraded I suddenly couldn’t log into my Wordpress Dashboard in firefox (i.e. worked). I did a little searching and found out that all I had to do was clear my cookies… wierd.
Thanks to sharing this. On last update, I update it manually
WordPress Automatic Upgrade is a lifesavor. Back in the olden-years I had to upgrade manually, and even over a fast connection it took a very long time. After finding the plugin, man I was glad. Now I’m not even worried about how much time it takes to upgrade… just click and wam! Upgraded.
wah, I should have read this before I upgraded my blog manually! I’ve been doing manual upgrade almost forever. I’ll use this plug-in on my next upgrade, don’t know when. Thank you for the information!
I’ve been looking for an easy way to upgrade my three blogs. Thank God I found your blog. Thanks..
thanks all for ur comments.
this plugin really made it easy to upgrade, i’ve upgraded blogs on domains, subdomains and folder directories and all ran fine. all plugins works too. only small problem on this blog since i didn’t have a chance to install the new version of my theme.
but just as a precaution, do backup ur installation and post as there is still a slight chance the upgrade wont go smoothly.
Wordpress 2.6 is really nice. Just a tip - if your captions don’t work, you might want to read this: http://www.angadsodhi.com/wordpress/upgraded-to-wordpress-26-do-i-need-to-upgrade-my-theme/
ty angad for the tip. For my current theme, there’s actually an updated version for WP 2.6 but i didn’t have time to install it yet. I’ll try ur way if upgrading my theme doesn’t solve that problem.
I have known about this already but i have been skipping to use it. lol. Maybe next time.
Long live WP!
