To Sitemeter Users, Your Site is Down in IE
Does your site uses Sitemeter tracking code? A few hours ago, thousands of websites around the world are down because of this simple code. From the reports that came in, only the sites using the javascript code are affected by the current problem.
Don’t go hammering your ISP or Hosting company yet, or even tweaking here and there on your computers settings. This issue appears to be looking serious, but seriously it is a simple matter. Well actually its not really the websites that is down, rather the surfers can’t access those affected websites thru Interet Explorer. Only users using Internet Explorer 6 & 7 are affected by this Sitemeter bug. So if your don’t have a website and not using Internet Explorer, you are good to browse.
I just managed to catch this on the news and immediately checked my blog. This is what i get with IE:
I’ve got no problem accessing my blog using Mozilla Firefox. There is still no official report from the Sitemeter website, i think maybe they are still recovering from last nights hangovers. Their site also appears unaffected, business as usual.
For website/blog owners, there are 2 options that you can do. First one is clearly you need to remove the codes from your pages. But i like to try with the second choice, that is to change the Sitemeter javascript codes to the HTML version. Just login to your Sitemeter account, and copy and paste the HTML version. For now my blog appears to be working properly in Internet Explorer 7.
Looking at this problem, and reading again my previous post, thank god for Firefox and Google Analytics. That’s another reason to put Internet Explorer inside my “Unused Programs” folder.

lucky i found out your post yesterday. didnt notice it, since im using firefox. alrdy fixed it too.
Hi Imran! Returning the visit to your blog (thank you for yours to ours). I’m also wondering why you are using a third party system when wordpress has several trackers/stats. We use both blogstats and statpress and have all the analytical material we can handle
Just a thought, this way you are not dependent on anyone except your own hosting.
hi diane, good question there. Actually my favorite is still google analytics, easy to manage since i have several websites, and not all are wordpress. In terms of plugins, i tried using those and unfortunately, one site keeps getting into problems (i’m not much of an expert in php). And since WP and plugins keep getting updated, relying much on them solely can also create headaches whenever something happens
