Slow Streamyx

For Streamyx users in Malaysia, it’s been a week now, last Sunday to be exact, since i encountered this network timeout issues. At first i thought this is just some isolated blogs incident. but as more and more blogs i visited to drop my Entrecard, i keep facing this error. Both Firefox and Internet Explorer couldn’t access the website. I thought it might be my broadband connection or network congestion. Then i tried accessing the same website using a proxy and to my surprise, the website did load up.

From my sources in Streamyx customer service, they also didn’t have any updates on this errors but they did have a lot of complains from internet users. There are a few rumors floating around. One of them saying that a few of Malaysian government websites have been hacked, and while they currently trying to regain access and repair the problem, they have been blocking up some IP address ranges and checking one by one to eliminate the real threat. Fortunately, this network timeout issue have lessen these past 1,2 days.

Anyway, for some users facing this problem or maybe your office blocks some sites like Myspace etc, i recommend a simple and FREE software to use when trying to access these websites, Ultrasurf. It has been developed by Ultrareach Internet corp, specifically targeting users in China. The homepage is in Chinese but the software itself is in English.

Very easy to use, it automatically uses it’s own proxy server when you load it up, then just type in any address that you would like to go to and the speed isn’t that slow too. The software is small, only about 200kb and very light. For people in office that have firewall blocking certain website, i find this website, rajeshrana.net has a good explanation on how to configure the application.
