How to set DNS

Taken from Wikipedia

The Domain Name System (DNS) associates various information with domain names. most importantly, it serves as the “phone book” for the Internet by translating human-readable computer hostnames, e.g. www.example.com, into IP addresses, e.g. 208.77.188.166

Go to your control panel, and select network connection.

  • If you are using manual connection, then right click on the icon under Broadband category, click on properties. On the network tab, click on internet protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties. Select use the following DNS server.
  • If you are using auto connection, then right click on the Local Area Connection under LAN category, click on properties. On the general tab, click on internet protocol (TCP/IP) and click properties. Select use the following DNS server.
  • DNS server number 202.188.0.133 or 202.188.0.132 (Primary)
    202.188.1.5 (Alternate)

How To Ping

Taken from Wikipedia

Ping is a computer network tool used to test whether a particular host is reachable across an IP network; it is also used to self test the network interface card of the computer. It works by sending ICMP “echo request” packets to the target host and listening for ICMP “echo response” replies. Ping estimates the round-trip time, generally in milliseconds, and records any packet loss, and prints a statistical summary when finished.

To ping, press the start menu, then click on run, type cmd, and press ok. A DOS prompt window will open up. Just type in >> ping your command here

Replace your command here with below

  • ipconfig/all - displays all current TCP/IP network configuration (default gateway - modem IP address).
  • ipconfig/flushdns - to release current DNS
  • ipconfig/release - to let go of the IP address.
  • ipconfig/renew - to obtain a new IP address
  • 127.0.0.1 - your network card (NIC) ip address

Any reply from the IP address you ping is considered good.

Any timeout request means either its faulty or different IP address is pinged.
